oil seal vacuum pump are low to medium vacuum pump , will capacity to achieve maximum vacuum of around 1 milli torr. This type of pump are mostly available in rotary vane type or rotary piston type , or positive displacement type.
Rotory piston type have a circular piston rotating eccentric around its axis and touching the inner circle of the body. This type of pump usually available in double stage to equalise the imbalance due to eccentric weight. due to less sliding friction this type of pump have longer life than rotary vane pump. while due to easy manufacturing process rotary vane type pump are cheaper and offered sufficient long life of around 10000 hours.
Rotary vane type of vacuum pump have eccentric slotted rotor in to which blades slides in and out creating volume increase in a shape enclosed by vane which suck the air. Usually , blades are forced and held to the body in sliding contact by spring force to achieve higher vacuum at slow speed.
This pump are said to be oil seal , because they are immersed in oil by a tank and are sealed from all side for air leackage to achieve higher vacuum performance.
